The iPad

Thanks for the responses on the last post guys. I have more following on from what you offered, but I couldn't let the Apple iPad announcement go unmarked.

A huge iPhone. Only without a camera or GPS.

For half the price, you can get a fully functioning laptop around the same size as this thing, with at least double the storage capacity. This iPad is, to go all internet about it, epic fail.

You think it's an epic fail Bitter? Really?

I think the Mac Enthusiasts, which I am one of, will be camped out in front of the respective stores to get their mitts on this beauty come March.

One of the American papers had this headline this morning" Jobs down from the Mount:Move over Moses, the 21st Century Tablet!" And the press pool- which I was once a proud member- had more people covering that event then they did Obama's state of the union.....a few hours later...

I want to see it in the store and play with it. And maybe then, I might consider buying it....

Do you think it will sell better if he had named it, the "Mini pad" or the "Maxi pad"....

I hope I made you laugh. Brilliant picture as always.

Definitely Maxi Pad.

The amount of press covering it is really only a measure of the hype - not the item itself. I honestly can't see what even Mac Enthusiasts would get out of this.

For a bit more, they could get a Macbook. Or, for a good deal less, they could get an iPod Touch, with just as much storage yet in a far more portable form or an iPhone, which right now has more features.

At the size, this should have been closer to a laptop in function than an iPhone. It shouldn't need to be synced to a computer, it should be the device that other things are synced to.

And it looks like a digital photo frame - the huge border isn't doing it any favours and makes it even larger than it should be.

Yeah, I'm sticking with epic fail.

Maybe I'm just not seeing who the target market is.

iPad?? I would've named it the iWant! LOL

The way I see it, if some company (think Adobe) creates a decent app for this gadget that would let you use it as a Wacom tablet, then it would have enormous appeal for graphic artists —who wouldn't want to carry an electronic sketchbook that also let's you hear music or browse the net?

Of course, I'll never be able to afford it... but one can dream.

Due to the nature of the screen, you can only use it with your finger and, while it has multi-touch, it doesn't have layers of sensitivity so it would have limited function and certainly wouldn't come close to a Wacom.

That said, I love drawing with the iPod Touch with the Brushes app or Layers and being able to do that at a bigger size would be great. But that single draw wouldn't even come close to justifying the price.

I am thinking, which is why I haven't gotten an iphone yet- though I have been longing to do so. I have a bare bones plain vanilla cell phone and I am paying almost as much for that as I would for an iPhone or a Blackberry...

It's the keypad. I played around on a iphone, and an ipod touch, and I cannot get use to the keypad. On one of these ipads- they are going to have an optional keypad- so I can use my QWERTY keypad! Sold right then and there. If they can do that for an iphone.... I wouldn't be going to Verizon or ATT and looking at Blackberries.....

If they called it an iPADD it would be worth it just to download screensavers of PADD readouts from Star Trek Next Gen and after...

Download a screensaver and just sit it on your table, picking it up every ten minutes or so and saying "He's dead, Jim..."

Sure the pop-culture references are mashed up, but that doesn't matter... if it came with sounds too, that would be even better - take it to meetings in order to be derisive of other peoples ideas...

Yeah, you want one now...

Maybe... if it came with sounds...

Looks like the iPad will have competition.
