Must... sleep...

So, so tired. Not a night goes by that I don't wake up at around 2am and that's me up for a few hours. Then there's the usual pre-7am wake-up call by my very own flesh and blood alarm clock that is my daughter.

So tired.

Anyone still come by here? You know, just to poke my corpse with a stick or something? Oh, by the way, I have just joined Twitter. Em, I think it's here - http://twitter.com/BitterAnimator . I haven't yet tweeted much but, if you come across this, why not follow me and see if I tweet some more? Go on. You can always unfollow me if I'm rubbish at it.

So how have y'all been? I miss you blog guys and girls.

Edit: Wow, blogger just chooses my font sizes entirely at random. Thanks blogger.

Sleep's overrated anyway. If we exert ourselves half as much through the day, should we not be able to go without sleep?

I only just complained about being awake, opened my feeds and saw this. Story of my life. My wife just said "That sums you up to a t". (Birthday coming up. Would you consider a t-shirt?)

Does this mean you're tweetering away between 5 and 7am?

Dearest Bitter,

I've been sleeping about 16 hours a day during this last bit of depression. Not able to do anything , even writing, it sucks, and it's sucking the life out of me.

I would gladly give you some of my sleep, my friend.

Of course, I would also be happy to sit for your daughter but I don't have a passport and she is too young to put on a plane to JFK!

And no doubt she would wonder why all us New Yorkers tawk funny,

Glad you are blogging and tweeting. ;-)
Now we have to get RPJ tweeting.

Hi James,
I'll have a look and see if I can get a t-shirt set up for you (if I can remember how it works!). I'm definitely reading tweets during those hours but have very little by way of coherent thought to tweet myself. That often makes it all the more frustrating - the pointlessness of what is going on in my brain during that time is quite ridiculous.

Susan, I'd love some of your 16 hours. Right now, that sounds wonderful - the grass is always greener and all that. Hope you break out of that depression for a while soon.

My sleeping problems happen on Sunday (Monday) nights. I try to sleep but I'm attacked by anxiety.

Rest of the week I go to bed way to late for my health. Last Tuesday I stayed awake until 3 in the morning watching (again) The Mothman Prophecies.

PS: My home computer broke (again!!) so I'm not sure I'll even be able to blog, much less Tweet :-/

Oh I know that Sunday night sleep well, RPJ. Or lack of sleep.

I put my back out really badly a couple of months ago. Could barely move and was on a serious drug cocktail. I had some of the most amazing sleeps I've had since I can remember, even on a Sunday. It was like a revelation - oh, it IS possible to go to sleep at night and not wake up until morning. It IS possible to feel rested.

Alas, my back got better and my sleep got worse.

Just found your blog. Appreciate you writing it. Animators/cartoonists can seem so cheery on the outside, I was beginning to think I'm a freak. Good to know there are kindred spirits out there. I wanna dig through your archives to see what I've missed.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, it seems being cheerful is part of our expected image. But often it couldn't be further from the truth.

I still come here to read and re-read your posts every so often. It's good to see you post again. Hopefully we'll see some more of it! :-)

Thanks for the comments. There is something nice about people stopping round - sorry about the lack of updates. It's been tough to keep things going here.

And that reminds me about James and the t-shirt, which I didn't sort for him as I didn't find the hi-res version of the image. Meant to look on another hard drive and forgot and now I feel bad. Gah! Sorry, James. I really am. It's too late now I'm sure but I'll try to find that hard drive and dig it out.

Reminds me of something someone once said about work - if not meeting your targets is making you feel bad, get better at your job. I need to get better at life.

It's no problem about the t-shirt. If you find the image then I'm sure I can secure a good Christmas present, but otherwise don't worry. Cheers.

The solution for tiredness and inability to sleep is exercise and physical activity. I know because I have the same problem and it helps believe me. If you look back on the times in your life when you slept well and had lots of energy you were probably very active physically. Go for a 1 hour walk in the evening before bed and you will sleep better. Go run, even better... ; ) You can do it... Never surrender.
